Testing electrics

I haven't got a clue when it comes to electrics so can someone tell me how best to test electrical components to see if they work?

Obviously i need to hook them up to the battery in some way, is it as easy and running a couple of wires from the battery to the part??? Don't want to destroy anything in the process!

Hi Tom - basically yes so long as its not anything that requires a lower ampage than direct from battery. Im not too hot on electrics but i have tested out things like horn, headlamp bulbs, fog lights, radios etc just connecting straight to the battery.

what do you need to test?

I'm going to test everything

I always thought that the current in a circuit is dictated by the load on the circuit, that is the component being tested. If you hook up a motor then it'll draw the current from the battery needed to operate that motor, so long as you don't use cables that are to small to handle that current then you should be ok.........i think

Just need someone to confirm my thoughts!
