In 1969, in my first year at college, I needed transport and purchased a Ford Pop ( sit up and beg) for £10.00. It was very slow and the brakes were, well they slowed the car down. It overheated on journeys greater than 50 miles or so. However, it lasted around 8 months before it ground to a halt. I sold it for £8.50 to another student who was building a Ford special of some kind.

That is close to my heart.
Year before the Y Type I too bought an E93A pop non runner for £5.
My mate towed it back with me in it for miles through Birmingham on the No 11 bus route.
Brakes?
Nope not really. When home I dreamt of my hot rod plans, my mother and sister thought me mad and had it towed to a scrap yard while I was at work.
Never quite got over that.

It was.
It was a really mint car, no rust and no engine or box. £5…

You could do anything in the 70’s

Slight correction Keith - it's actually the Gatso 1500 Sport - only one of the model was built by Maurice Gatsonides (based on Fiat 1500 underpinnings) in 1949 ...

Some years ago I remember going into Stefano Ricci's to enquire about the price of a jacket that I'd seen in the window - it turned out to be £3500 ...
