Late to the party and only just caught up with this after seeing mention on your steering wheel ad!

Great to see you back in a 911, especially as you once said it would never happen! Always enjoy watching how you transform your cars which is so refreshing.

Thanks Darren - as I said at the start of this thread it was unintentional & is only a temporary 'stop-gap'.

With a view to putting the car up for sale in the near future, I thought about fitting some alternative seats to widen the appeal - something with headrests &, possibly, hinged/tipping backrests.

I didn't have anything suitable so started tentatively keeping a lookout.

I'd ruled out buying new (too expensive) so, as always, was hoping to find a bargain ...

Persistence paid off & I managed to source a pair of used BF Torino recliners at a knock-down price :





Unfortunately, although they came with runners, there were no 911-specific adapters included - but there was the added bonus that the the cord centres had suitably faded.

Again, being a cheapskate, I wasn't prepared to fork out ~ £150 for 'off-the-shelf' adapters so set about fabricating some from 3in x 3/16in aluminium flat bar.

First step was to produce some rough templates to establish suitable dimensions & mounting hole arrangements.





The measurements were then transferred to the aluminium flat bar & cut/shaped/drilled :







- before priming followed by several coats of satin black







The adapters were bolted to the seat runners (using M8 button-head allen screws/nuts) & the passenger seat fitted to the car:





Thankfully all of the mounting holes lined up !

Next up was to repeat the process for the driver's seat ...

I didn't get any decent shots when fitting the driver's seat but these (poor) pictures give an overall view of both seats.





Whilst still on the look-out for more seats I managed to find a NOS pair of BF Torino sport seat replicas at a great price – so bought them.
They're the black vinyl/black cord version which I think suits the 911 best.
These will be offered as another option to any prospective buyer of the car.





- I don't think they've ever been sat in & the headrests have never been fitted either.


I'd noticed recently that one or more of the brakes seemed to be binding so decided to investigate.
Both of the o/s brakes were 'dragging' & there were signs of brake dust on the outside of the o/s/r wheel.
With the rear of the car jacked up & supported on axle stands, it proved very difficult to remove the o/s/r pads so I ended up removing the caliper c/w pads which revealed that the pistons were sticking.

Luckily I had a pair of new/unused rear calipers 'on the shelf' so decided to fit those (& strip down the old ones later).





Surprisingly, however, I noticed that the brake pistons were not set at the specified 20deg angle



- so rotated them to the correct orientation




To complete the installation I bought/fitted a new set of Brembo pads as these came with anti-squeal shims.



Finally I pressure bled system remembering to clamp the overflow/breather tube from the reservoir !



Next on to the fronts ...

On checking the front brakes the pads seemed to be wearing unevenly so I decided to remove & inspect the front calipers too.





One piston in each front caliper was well & truly stuck (the inner piston on both sides for some reason) so decided to replace both front calipers to match the rears & dismantle/refurbish the existing ones at a later date.

Cheapest source for new calipers seemed to be Heritage Parts (even more so with the 10% DDK discount applied) so a pair was ordered.




When working on the n/s/r rear brakes I'd noticed that there were signs that the upper & lower sections of the Bilstein shock absorber had been making contact resulting in the paint being rubbed off so decided to remove it to investigate.



On disassembling the damper it seemed that someone had been a bit over-enthusiastic in cutting down the bump stop rubber … it was less than half of the original length !





- this allowed slight lateral play between the damper & the upper dust cover resulting in contact under certain conditions.

I wasn't prepared to pay the going rate for new bump stop rubbers - typically £50+ each ! - so sourced a used pair of Boge rear s/absorbers c/w excellent (non-butchered) bump stop rubbers for £20 pr.



- & after cleaning



Both rear Bilstein dampers were cleaned, rubbed down, primered & painted Cateripllar Yellow then re-assembled with the std length bump stop rubbers & new 'Bilstein' stickers.

Will be interested to read your thoughts on the Brembo pads and stopping and squeals at low speeds.
Winter task will be new discs and pads on my 73.
Rear damper..
I too have a rubbing mark on one of my Koni rears which I think is caused by the contact with the driveshaft, just one side.
