That handbrake arrangement is crude but fascinating! I wonder if there is enough clamping force to pass an MOT…

Car looks fantastic

Had a bit of a scare last week when Nick Fulljames called to say he wasn't getting the required compression ratio when measuring up the new Mahle Barrels and Pistons for the engine. I was subsequently told they should be mated with RSR heads however there's a slight stud pattern difference with these which would have meant an uncomfortable fit anyway so Nick set to work to see what he could do. I guess some people just go with Mahle's stated spec being new pots and pistons but glad Nick checks everything accurately otherwise we would have been down a few horses down! :? ....

...a couple of days later after a little trick machining by Mr Fulljames and all was good again with Nick managing to get the factory 10.3:1 CR along with a little added clearance for piston to head...

Image

...heads have all been ported, machined and twin plugged with 1mm oversized exhaust and intake valves and are just having valve heights set ready for fitting...

Image

Image

....the (very) eagle eyed will notice the very slightest of chamfer for clearance, this was kept to the very slightest of tolerances required as taking away material reduces the overall compression ratio. A very fine balance!

Image

All the hard work with the engine has now been done and I'll hopefully be visiting Nick in the next couple of weeks to watch it being assembled :)
