So all those years ago we actually had clean electric transport …. Trolley busses in Teesside. These were photographed 4th April 1971 on their final day of service

Surprised you didn't get 2 years in prison for displaying a white light to the rear of a vehicle... They're all over the easy pickings these days. People exhibiting a fundamental contempt for societal standards of law and order however... those don't seem to be a priority.

I got a clip around the ear in the mid 70's for having amber lights on the side of my 1937 hot road, today they are called side repeaters...
But, i think your assessment is pretty good.
The VW would be ultra safe on the road at night mind, would see it coming better than many bicycles..

It was just a bit of fun, kept nice and slow as a lot of people were stopping for photos.
Also saw 3 police cars while out and about so can only assume they had more pressing matters to deal with! Its a relatively small town and the Police are pretty sensible.
