What did you do in/on/for your Porsche today?

refitted the regreased starter. no joy. it spins very fast but doesn't throw out to dog gear. ffs!

Fitted a very cool engine grille badge I found on eBay to my S: the first owner was Kurt Schwaiger, owner of Hotel Schillerhof in Badgastein, who took delivery of the car from Porsche Konstruktionen K.G., Salzburg on 07.01.1972…

I tried. I managed to put the starter back together properly, i didn't have the throw out fork attached to the main drive.

It span up and engaged nicely on the bench. However on the car it is exactly the same. it's so bad i can't get it to fire up before it drains the battery.

Before i scrap it I'm going to try a brand new battery on it first. Given that it's always been sluggish I'm sure it's duff. I need a new battery for another car.

I got rid of that shitey section of starter cable and made a start on running some fresh stuff that'll get joined under the rear carpet. Only broke one captive stud, and it was the one by the transit grommet so I'm not overly worried about it.



Hopefully get it joined up and heatshrunk today, but we'll see. My hands are scratched to buggery and could probably do with a break.

not today but sunday. i stripped down the starter as it has always been slow and recently steuggled to start at all. thought I'd have a look inside before i took for a rebuild.

Turns out what little grease that was left inside had gone hard.

So a liberal smearing was done, put it back together and bench tested.

Holy shite it sounded like a jet engine! going to fit it and hope it's all good. If not it's off to the rebuilders.

Well done. I opened one once and decided I wasn't sure I could get it back together and put it back together!

That's the first Wendler Coupe RS001 - crashed in ~mid '60's







It was later bought by the Porsche Museum & restored back to its original configuration & colour.

For anyone wondering - the rear lights are from a late '50's Mercedes 220B ...

Repaired tidily, roared in to life on the first turn of the key. Well, first turn of the key once I'd locked and unlocked it because it's got a stupid alarm on it.
Still need to refit the middle undertray, but looking forward to taking it out a test run, especially as I've not driven it since I fitted the RS engine mounts. Don't think I really realised how much it being immobilised was getting me down, as the relief when it fired up was what I imagine that first line of chang is like.

A dry day so took my old car out with a friend to collect his beautiful Healey from the paint shop ..

Took a bit of coaxing to start from cold, then left it a while to warm up. I can only describe driving this as like operating Winchester lever action rifle, I love it. Far from perfect but always exceeds expectations. Note to self, be less precious and just use it more.



Here's the Healey .. What to say, it's a bit mint! Non-standard cam and mild breathing enhancements gives it a terrific sound.



It's a small independent body shop in the South Derbyshire area (no affiliation). This was in the booth today from one of the most prestige luxury dealers in the country. I so want one of these , or should I have a 2.7 Carrera RS instead? If only .



I'll post contact details of the body shop (or message me), when I get them. Think you'd be in safe hands.

I'm with you there about the red. Dino 246 prices have fallen back recently, but still around the £300k mark. To me they just look so good, can't imagine they'll ever crash in value. A couple of restorers have told me they're not such a great design, but I'd be willing to overlook all the Italian idiosyncrasies for the way they sculpted it.

apparently there were only 69 in this colour? I never even knew it existed until I saw one in Luxembourg a few years ago and nearly broke my neck as it passed on the opposite carriageway.
