I live a very simple life it seems!

The Skoda will do about 8K miles/year. Mostly that is a mix of long journeys towing and lots of 20+ mile runs.
We use the Boxster an awful lot, it now sits at 85K, about 4K each year but always long runs, no shopping.

I'm sure Diesel will be even more of a dark fuel very soon, hence my shift to petrol which wont be far behind in the next 5/10 years.

By then I'll be told I'm too old and far too dangerous to drive at all and due to go to the glue factory.

I have lived the golden age of motoring!

That looks great Clive … and gets around the legal issue of touching your phone screen when making changes to the nav . I bet I can mod that to fit my rennline phone mount and keep my phone tucked away

it has a metal back so will pop straight on your rennline mount- and yes touch screen- I'm really pleased with it!!

CarPlay is great.
As the Flachbau is aimed at long road trips I have put in a radio- none in any of my other Porsches.
Then I stumbled on this

A 5 inch screen that connects with phone by Bluetooth and transmits audio to the FM radio.
Full CarPlay navigation and hands free phone, can even listen to “Spikes car radio” through the speakers!
All for about £50 with mounting kit/leads etc.
For about £10 more you can even add a reversing camera!

Taking the opportunity to talk about this car…
A week in and it is fabulous, what a solid, competent confident and comfortable estate car it is.

Love the double clutch box and the uber flexible 280 bhp petrol engine.
Love the lack of burnt diesel pervading the cabin over the last 5 years…

Odd not having engine braking, but have adjusted quickly.
Have not lapsed to trying to change gear yet in the few hundred miles covered so far.

Really pleased, have not touched the menu on the screen yet!

And running at 36 mpg.

Have it got the sport mode gearbox setting?
Took me about 2 weeks to notice that on my similar Audi.

Yes, also flappy paddles on the wheel.

You pull back just beyond the Drive position and dash goes red etc.
Haven't tried that yet as I've not driven the car solo yet.

You can use the paddles anytime and once you stop using them they revert to Drive, the touring mode.

Seems many select sport gearbox, touring steering and touring ride in 'touring mode or sports mode.

Touring ride is exactly as my old Superb, beefs the same despite 10 years of wear.

In “D” I’ve found a snap overtake can leave me hanging while the box shuffles inside for uncomfortably long breath. In “S” its a bit more ready to go.

Yes, I can feel the same.
There is a lot to be said for the immediateness of a gearbox!

But, this car is about comfort and doing the job I need, the Boxster and the 911 are good, the Lola with 320 bhp and 560Kg tops immediateness !
