Targa Florio 2024 in my 356A

Hi Jim,

The VW wouldnt be eligible for the Targa Florio Classica but there were other rallies running alongside it including the Targa Florio Legend for vehicles manufactured from 1978 to 1990. Not sure about the 904.

I took the easy (but not cheap) option which was sharing a transporter to get the car there and flew down to Palermo with Ryanair. After the event finished I did kind of wish I was driving the car home.

I went with classic Porsche specialist export56 who organised all the paperwork needed for me and the car - and there is quite a lot. Once there though its all fairly painless re check in and scrutineering.

There is a fair amount of motorway driving between the good stuff. Probably at least 60-70 miles or so of it (about 20 miles of it was in the dark pounding along at 130kmh back to Palermo). A couple doing the event in a sprint prepared 4 speed 1.3HF Fulvia were complaining that it wasnt the right car for it and wished they had their 1600HF there instead with 5 gears.

The event cost includes hotels, meals, evening dinners - all very well put on. And was pretty good "value" compared to other events.

The only contact I had with organisers was a lady dealing with accomodation and other admin but am not sure she was full time. As mentioned, I took the easy option as it was a bucket list, once in a lifetime experience which probably wont be repeated!!

There are Bucket List items and there are REAL Bucket List items. I think this fits in the latter. Doubt you'll ever regret it or forget it. Congrats Jonno.

Many thanks Roy. I have had it for 11 years now and it has been a joy to own. Hard to resist taking it out in the sunshine but the roads here are still covered in salt.
