The horn push on it is a bit Heath Robinson, and makes the whole wheel look a bit Meccano. I’m sure with a decent Porsche crest on something similar, constructed a lot better, would make that wheel a lot more at home?

The original 77 dash from the car was quite different from those fitted in 74, as well as being the wrong colour, however I've not seen a decent reproduction and with the liklihood of finding a good original RHD dash extremely slim I thought I'd have a go at backdating the original....

Image

Image

Image

Image

...after prepping for the speaker grill we set about deleting the centre vents...

Image

Image

Image

....sample vinyl checked against the original and given a little ageing.....

Image

....and then sent to a fairly local trimmer to work their magic....

Image

Image

Image

....the end result was amazing although the vinyl a little too matt compared to an original dash....

Image

Image

...cue a little backdating polish  ....

Image

...and it now looks like a perfect original 74 dash in amazing condition...

Absolutely thrilled with how well this turned out and so much better than a reproduction :)

Another fun project has been the guard that protects the twin fuel pumps under the bonnet....

Image

..it's a pretty ugly feature and spoils the look of the sexy looking twin pumps imo however from what I can tell these were only ever fitted to the six RHD cars and I've seen this fitted to three of the six in question. I suspect it was due to a UK conformity requirement and they may possibly have been manufactured and fitted when the cars arrived in the country.

Although I've seen this fitted and photographed this item previously I wasn't sure of dimensions so I set off to the recent Boxengasse meet in the hope that the ex-Mexborough car might be in attendance....that car wasn't there however as luck would have it the Bamford car #9098, a car I've never seen previously, was 8) .....

Image

....the car's caretaker on the day was extremely helpful and accommodating and kindly let me take a few dimensions....

Image

Image

...after seeking the help of Bob and Clare at Concept Racing I sent them a sketch of my requirements.....

Image

....they promptly had this translated into a proper format...

Image

.... and then made this!!! 8) 8) 8)

Image

As I said, ugly as sin, but that's how the six RHD cars were! :)

Good to see the cogs are starting to turn and speeding up on this car!

Almost odd, to my eyes, to see a RHD early car going through the process. :)

A quick visit to Gary and Giulio at GDC today to drop off a few parts....

....we have a bit of sorting on the rear arms to take care of and the pedal box is currently being modified for RHD....

Image

Image

....of course the steering wheel was always meant to be on the left hence the messing around!

And that's things pretty much up to date.....although I'm hoping things will snowball soon :)

Cheers,
