I suggest you scan it before you fit it. If the vinyl has degraded or you have problems, you'll be able to get a replica made. In fact I'd be interested to receive the scan(s) if you do, as it's very rare to get an opportunity to copy the exact original logo and font, as fonts are copied and logos change over time. If you were to send me a collection of raster files and a dimension I can scale off I'll happily piece them together and send you back an accurate vector format for the other side.

Thanks for the tip Rob! Not too up on my file formats but as this is still someway off being fitted to the car I’ve got plenty of time to investigate them!

If you put it on a scanner you'll just get what's called a raster image, it's no good for artwork to print or cut from. Most likely a jpeg. Also it won't fit on an A4 scanner all in one go so you'd have to send a few scans. But if you were to send me that I'll give you back a vector format for both left and right which can then be printed by any vinyl graphics company.

Thanks Rob! I had no idea a jpeg / png / tiff etc file format was a raster!

I have an A3 printer and scanner so will use that to reduce the number of scans I need to do

Finally some news on my 2.5 ST (aka S-R) project - we will be starting on the arches very soon as the shell is back in the bodyshop again!…

We will be hanging the rear suspension arms on the shell first so we can use one of my 9” Fuchs with a TB15+ fitted to ensure there’s no problem with wheel arch clearances.

All non-production lightweight parts including the fibreglass bonnet and aluminium doorskins will have to go and the steel body parts will need to be retrieved from my donor car as the FIA banned these for the 1972 season in Appendix J, although they subsequently relented and allowed the use of fibreglass enlarged front wings and arches as an option…

It’s not known whether GeLo was fitted with fibreglass or steel enlarged front wings so we are going with my Longhood.nl steel arches as that was the ‘standard’ factory fitment.

The fibreglass front bumper remained legal however as this was a production part on the 911 S up to circa December ‘71.

In the meantime here’s another rare photo from Le Mans ‘72 that’s been unearthed by one of my fellow ST geeks…

This appears to show one of the GeLo mechanics painting the race number on the car following scrutineering in which race number #78 was issued (at least for practice until Jean Sage withdrew his own 911 S with race number #44
after practice, joined Loos and brought the race number and his sponsors to the team):

Prior to scrutineering the car was unloaded wearing no race numbers at all but still had the windscreen top strip present from the Monza 1000kms World Championship round the previous month, but this had to be removed as the ACO did not permit this.
