Leaky oil tank

Post by MdR »

My oil tank has started slowly dripping oil.
Is there chance it could be leaking out of the sender seal or is it more likely to be holed?
Any hints of how to repair a holed tank (braze?)

Hi Martin,

My sender seal was leaking, but then so were all the holes

Repairing is an option, but has to be done really carefully to avoid getting the remains of the repair pumped straight to your main bearings :(

A better route would probably be a sound later tank as I would imagine a much more modern tank would still fit. My problem was the '72 tank is so obscure that repair was the only financially viable option.

Ah. Yes. Swarf etc into the bearings. That's bad isn't it?
Is the (S?) SWB oil tank the same as later ones?
