We have a very informal crew in JHB we call PPAS: Parkview Porsche Appreciation Society.
Started out as an antidote to the 997/991 focused Porsche Club of South Africa.

Here are some pics of our last informal gathering.
Ironic that we stopped for a photo opp at the gates to the Porsche-owned and newly refurbished Kyalami and were chased away by security!

The colours are stunning. I like them all but the signal orange car is lovely.

Please keep your reports and pictures and your names/contacts coming over the year. We have very little connection with S A Porsche owners (I know it is a huge country) so any contact would be great for mutual info swopping. A lot of SA delivered cars ended up in the U.K. for obvious reasons but their early SA history/owners is always hard to come by. It's nice to have like minded friends there.

Thanks for posting the pictures. My 1972 911 "T" (currently being transformed into an ST) originated in South Africa. When trying to research it's history PCSA were totally disinterested in helping in any form. Tim Abbot, who restores Porsche cars, from Kyalami, on the other hand was most helpful providing invoices for work on the car going back five years. Please keep posting.

To be honest I wish there wasn't a need for PPAS.
But the local Porsche Club which was a few years back a very active organiser of events that brought old and new together has recently become focused on the newer cars.

While their parts offering for the earlier cars is still impressive, there doesn't seem to be much appetite for us owners of older cars; the conversations that are expected and the time it takes to properly maintain the classics.

I can understand the economics of servicing older air-cooled cars vs newer ones, but it does smart a little considering how we as enthusiasts of the brand in general (old and new) are left out of the bigger picture sometimes. Strange considering that the man behind Porsche's amazing growth and success in South Africa, Toby Venter, has a ridiculous collection of air-cooled cars.

With regards info on cars that were here and are now there (so to speak) I am more than happy to help where I can. I have been collecting old PCSA magazines, which are an invaluable source of info. Give me a shout if you need some help and I can share what I know or connect you with someone who might actually know what they are talking about!

Evening Mike,
I was going to write something along these lines:

"South Africa is a big place.
With quite a lot of Porsche nuts spread out over a wide area.
I have pretty good network of online and offline connections but even so I'll need a bit more than a first name to go on..."

And then I realised you're probably talking about 'Brett' with the factory ST motor.
And I had a chuckle.

If it is the same Brett then he is not 'officially' part of our group (according to the loose bylaws I construct and amend at will).
But mainly because he lives a few hundred miles away.
He's certainly a kindred spirit with a knack for finding the original motor for his recently acquired car.
Top man.
And he has was appears to be a factory ST motor lying about.
To borrow from Uncle Monty "i'll have it, even if it's by burglary!"

Top bloke (even though we have only emailed and spoken on the phone) and he does have one or two VERY nice cars. Unique even.

A long shot but am trying to find any history on my ‘71 T, which originated from South Africa. Chassis # 9111100407, engine # 6110724 / 911/03. If you can help at all that would be great as I have had no luck so far.
