Cost to paint a hardtop?

Contemplating a steel hard top for the Boxster which is solid white.
One I have found is deep metallic blue, and would need a re paint to white.

Any rough ideas on the cost to do this?

Why not ask the body shop that did your 911 a few years ago. It is not going to take up much garage space for them. It is easily moveable and they can do it as an when?

Understand Gary.
They did the 911 for£1500 all in, so I would expect £150 tops.
Costs mount up
££800 for thr the top.
£50 to collect it, more if I have to hire a small van
£100 for the fitting kit, maybe more
£150 for paint

Wife just turned her nose up at the idea, she seemed ok this morning!

There’s been a bit of inflation since you had the 911 done I reckon!

There must be at least 4 hours work to prep and paint a top. Plus materials. Plus VAT. If you find somewhere that does a good job for £150 let us know!

I agree they look great. Get one, lie about the cost.

My wife knows EVERYTHING, so there are NO hiding places...
I think the idea is dead, but i like the look.
We never have the roof down when in the car together and my solo runs are rare. The hard top has a far wider rear view than the soft top.

My 911 was painted 2 years ago by a small paint shop local to me. They usually repair hire vans, so the 911 was welcome.

I stripped it and repaired some areas and did the corrosion protection (glass-out re-paint).
They rubbed it down (nothing much needed) and painted it 2 pack over a 2 week period, panel by panel.
I picked the panels up and re-fitted them.

The total bill was £1500, labour, paint, vat etc etc.
I was quoted 5K ans 12K a few months before.

The quality is right for a used car which might get a waxing once a year, a few blemishes because of me, a few because of them, but all ok.

I think that hard tops on a convertible are a retrograde step! It basically means you'll never be able to take the top down again, even if you get the bestest most wonderful weather. Each to their own though!

Great for the winter especially in our early Boxster - glass and heated window means it's an all year run around.

I drive our Boxster more with it's hardtop in place. As much as I like open-top motoring my flowing locks in a Boxster is not the look I desire.

The hard top I had spotted on ebay is now sold, so the thought has gone too.

I'm not a big fan of open top motoring, and the Boss will not have it at all, so maybe just 5 times a year when I drive the 987.2 on my own.
The money now saved will cover the insurance and tax and service on the car! (is that Man-Maths?)

So why did you buy a Boxster, a Cayman would have been better from what you’re saying?

We bought the Boxster in March 2016 from PCT.
We actually went to see a 996 Targa, but what a grey looking car it was.
The Boxster was sat next to it.

We had a BMW Z4 at the time that was awful to drive, so keen to move on as we had a big Euro tour booked.

The Boxster is a 987.2 so with the better 2.9 engine, but Camans were far more expensive if you want the Gen2 car spec, so we went for the Boxster.

I too would have the Cayman now.
