Reminds me of the removal of the whole oil system last summer when my engine spun a rod bearing.

Yes, that’s what I took off. Normally use the OE ones, but they are probably identical!

Interesting, my oil system always gurgles for a while when you start from cold, just assumed it was the oil getting back out of the sump/into the tank.

The ones from Mann Filter (W940/29) also comes in black, btw.

Just bought Mahle filter for my '73T and it is black.
I hope the NRV in this one works better than the 'groaning' current one.

As my starter only engages about 50% of the time and I’ve already rebuilt it twice over the years it’s time for something new.

Got the new starter fitted, the physical difference to the original is a bit off putting, but it fits and is half the weight.

To increase clearance (ie get some!) to the top of the the heat exchanger I rotated the mounting flange by one position, but other than that and rerouting the wiring it bolts straight on.

The speed it turns the engine over is something else, at least double, it engages instantly and it pulls oil pressure before it fires!

Fingers crossed for long term durability, but all good for now.

Going back a few posts, my new Purolator filter does not grumble on start up, all previous filter have, one way valve iirc is responsible.
