Heater controls 914

Sorry after www research I'm still not sure how the heater controls work in my 914.

The small, red tipped lever by the gearstick controls the heater exchangers. Lever to the floor means vents open and pulled back means closed and warm air moving towards the cabin. I've also read somewhere that this grounds the blower?

The top lever controls the speed of the fan. This has been replaced with an on/off switch in my car.

The middle black lever I thought directed the hot air but it appears I'm wrong?

The bottom lever controls the flow of hot air to the cabin. Left is the least and right the most?

Let's say I want only hot air to the legs and no cold air. What are my settings?

Let's say I want fresh air from outside to the window and no hot air?

Same as 911:

Middle and bottom levers are for hot and cold air to screen and feet respectively. They are not open/shut, just direct up or down. The only way to shut off fresh air is move top lever left. The only way to shut off hot air is to put the lever between the seats down.


Hot only on your feet would be:

Top lever left (fresh air path closed and no fresh air fan)
Middle lever (cold) doesn't matter ( as the fresh air path is shut)
Botton lever (hot) left.
Centre console lever up (opens hot air feed an run engine bay fan)

Fresh air only to windscreen:

Top lever right (opens fresh air feed and run fresh air fan)
Middle lever (cold) right ( up arrow indicates screen)
Botton lever doesn't matter since hot air feed closed.
Center console lever down (close hot air feed and no fan)

And red floor-mounted lever, if pulled all the way back, turns on the blower fan. Move it slightly forward to turn it off without shutting off the heat.

I didn't realize there where two fans!

I thought the top lever controlled the heater blower!

Now I understand that the heater exchange lever is also a switch for the heater blower.
