... yes I know that was shameless click bait - but wait until you see number three!

After losing a morning to mulling over MFI cold start and then engine fires... which then sent me looking at there - anyone had any experience of this sort of extinguisher?

No experience of its use / needing it, but I’ve fitted the long version of #2 in the engine bay & have a 2Kg extinguisher behind the seats.

There is a new Motorsport level design, 300mm long and just 35mm dia, just like a large stick of rock, might even go inside the 911 glovebox. Around £100 inc vat but add postage.
10 year shelf life, will kill all fire forms in Motorsport.

I was thinking the 3m one and looping from the engine lid as in some of their photos and then down the sides and back of the engine bay..

Aside from some neatness in design the difference between two is that #1 goes off at 80c and #2 at 120c.

I'm assuming that the ambient air temp doesn't get anywhere near 80c in there otherwise you'd have issues well before you'd had a fire or it inadvertently went off

Agree, the running engine will suck the air from the top of the engine bay into the engine with cooler air via the grill on the lid.
For peace of mind a cabin installed driver's seat canister would be/was my choice.

Had one for 16 years in my road/hillclimb 911 and thankfully, never needed it.
Porsche do not have them in their cars, and if the fuel/electrical systems are good, all should be well.

I had mine as in competition, the risks are higher of fire due to accident damage, but understand if you feel the need.
I have been told by a fire marshal at a hillclimb the canister that are popular, about200mm x 60mm diameter can suffer over time (years) with the powder settling hard and will not deploy, hence the conversation about the new 'stick of rock' design I mentioned above.

I do not mean to put you off, fit one if you feel the need.

No not put off at all. It's a bit like insurance and wishing you had more of it when the poo hits the fan (can't tell you why but I love the stuff, insurance not poo!)

My green halon one is well past is best, at least that's what the guage is saying. And whilst having it in the engine bay is fugly as hell it seems like a good idea to have one.
