Oh crap. Did the gearbox mounts pull through too?

Bugger! At least it looks like a clean break, it might have been a lot more difficult if it had been badly bent.
Hopefully it's just a case of replacing the shaft.
We've all been there with something similar ............ :roll:

Yup.

Guess engine mount went first used the shaft as a lever then pulled the box mounts out

Desperately trying to keep this build on plan…

Box is apart, rebuild parts ordered from Type911, selector shaft from German eBay.

Just got to clean the reverse/5th housing then all this stuff can sit to the side and I’ll get on with something else.

Garage (and probably the house :) ) now stinks.

Non matter how carefully you drain it more oil just lurks waiting to drip out when you move the box!

Decided to lighten the mood by doing some front suspension. That should be straightforward shouldn’t it?

Yes. Up to a point.

I bought a pair of later wishbones to replace my rotten ones that had already been modified for an early ARB.

Can you spot the issue?

So strip it all out again and do some cutting and welding. More hours on the rebuild fire :)

Think I’ll go to the pub instead .

Pub a good idea for today. sit in the warm sun until chilled out. Tomorrow will be so much better.

Did the garage tiles survive?
I too hate the stench of Hypoid Oil, travels in my house faster than exhaust fumes.

You can get a lot done I think while waiting for the parts?
My last order to Des911 is still on hold waiting for one part to arrive from somewhere....

When you realise you forgot to put the bracket back on for the fuse board cover top fixing…

LHS front suspension is now built. Fancy new Porsche disc backing plates held on with original rusty bolts :)

Other side tomorrow, then I think it’s time to go back to the interior rebuild.

Keep the faith Gary…these things are sent to challenge us…but what a gorgeous car it will be soon….then we can laugh about these moments once we are all at CLM….

All four corners on, just waiting on a new master cylinder and a few bits before I can finish the brakes.

Just a stock one, nothing special, the one on the car is of unknown heritage and looks well past due for replacement!

That clearly sucked, as they say here in the US of A.

When I was putting the engine back in my SC for the first time (acquired the car in pieces), the car was on a mid-rise lift and the engine and 915 assembly on a hydraulic lift table, which I’d just bought from the place where we go for inexpensive tools and equipment, Harbor Freight (analogous to Machine Mart? Maybe MM is better?). I know, you don’t really need both the car and the power train on adjustable devices, but it’s how I approached it. Also, this was the second table because the first one came out of the box quite badly damaged

I’d gotten everything in place and lined up, selector shaft through the hole into the car. End of a long day so left it for the night. Returning in the morning, the table’s hydraulic piston had leaked down overnight, leaving the 915’s nose up and the crankshaft pulley end most decidedly down. I was lucky in that my selector shaft survived, but that reinforced opening in the rear bulkhead, with the (very strong) flange to retain the boot, was ovaled like an upside down teardrop. The vendor replaced the second table and that third one has been OK ever since. But while not quite as extreme as yours, it was still a real Oh $hit moment, and I felt terrible for having inflicted any damage on the car.

I’ve got a little work to do on that flange as it’s not quite as round as it once was. It’s not too bad though, just need a little tickle with the adjusting stick :)

I spent a whole 30 minutes on my 1st arch liner prototype this evening. Needs a bit of development around the oil tank, but you get the idea: (Excuse the finger!)
