1. Did any early RHD cars - those from the 1965 and 66 model years - have a rear screen wiper as original equipment? If not, which is the earliest RHD car to do so?
2. Did RHD/UK market cars from the same period have under-the-bumper fog -lights as standard equipment or were they an option?
Any thoughts gratefully received. Best wishes, Robert
Some of us are still lurking here Robert.
I feel fairly certain that a rear windscreen wiper would only ever been available as an extra. Never seen an early car with one but MMU 911C had one at some time but it was taken off later as non-original equipment.
See Simons write up in Classic Porsche No 20.
All early cars (65-68 911s - RHD incl ) were fitted with 'in the bumper' Hella 128 fog lights as standard. UK cars had clear glass and yellow reflector. Porsche Sales Brochure W 221e dated 4/65 states two fog lights as standard fitment.
Hope this helps. Anyone confirm or otherwise?
That's good to hear Ian and many thanks for the contribution. The rear wiper was an unusual, but sometimes seen, option on LHD cars. I am not sure one was fitted to a RHD car from the 1965-66 model years, but stand to be corrected. I think there is more chance one was fitted to a 1967 S? I am also not sure about the under-the-bumper fog-lights. It's not clear to me whether they were standard fit or an option in the UK and, if the latter, whether, as a result of AFN upselling, all/most cars were in practice fitted with them. If standard in the 1965-66 model years, I think they probably ceased to be so in 1967?
I see the early parts book says the rear wiper assembly was available for cars with vin 305*** onwards which indicates 1967 model on.
Incidentally, it is my understanding that all RHD 911s came with the better quality salt and pepper boucle carpets. In all of the restored early LHD cars I have seen they are fitted with square weave. I wonder if this was AFN influence too. Certainly the '68 911L I had was exactly the same carpet as my '65 car. There is no apparent difference between the dashtops either as a matter of interest.
I think that may be a bit difficult. MY 66 is still very early and I think there were only two concessionaires worldwide at that time - AFN for UK and Hamiltons in Australia.
I guess there could be a factory supplied car against a private order but....?
The Kardex sometimes stated if the car was right hand drive but not always. And very few folk have access to these records.
Stuart Kay ('1st' on DDK) may be able to help you with the Australian import number.
I see that rhd converted cars are on the spreadsheet, best add mine- 304209. HKT65D, originally black, now white, and partially built to FIA specs by the previous owner. Former historic racer raced by Geoffrey Crabtree.

That’s it! I found the pics online by a guy called Hamish I think, while trying to find out a bit more about the car. I did speak to Geoffrey about it some time ago, but he rallied quite a few early 91’s at the time with Liz Jordan, so didn’t have any information about this particular one that he could recollect.
