1970 door cards - one piece or two?

Post by RobFrost »

These are the cards removed from one side of my 1970 911T. I presume they have been recovered at some point - but would they have originally been in one piece or two?

I was hoping to use them as a template but I've a suspicion the original was a single piece, right?

I'm looking for a pre-impact bumper 911S or other high-revving 911 to restore - please let me know if you see one.

Definitely one piece - it should be kind of L-shaped, lots of images on the Tinternet. The front part of the door card should cover the whole door from top to bottom - the small open door pocket covers this bottom part. The rear-most section only goes down as far as the top of the large opening door pocket.

The grey section seems to be original. If you have the small door pockets, and the original section still has the bolt hole for the small pocket (see image), I think you could make up a pretty good bottom section from 3mm hardboard and join new to old. You could get the shape close enough by fitting the grey section to the door and then put the small pocket in position and draw around it. Of course, it would be easier if you could obtain a paper template of an actual door card!

Thanks. I see the ones. It looks like my top card is original and has had the leg cut off to accommodate a single piece bottom, replacing the pockets. If I remember rightly you had a template knocking around?
