Rear view mirrors - can the glass be changed?

I'm trying to improve safety in my 1970 911, in particular visibility of other road users. I assume my mirror's original - the silvering is all bitty / corroded. Is it possible to pop out the glass and replace, and if so how? If not, what are alternative fixes?

Fall-back solution. Also, it needs to be the special dippable glass with two reflections, one brighter than the other.

I had this issue and never resolved it. I temporarily bought a clip on wider rear view mirror which massively improved visbility and then never got round to replacing the mirror glass. Not the answer your looking for but works as an interim that becomes long term fix

Also, I can't unbond it from the windscreen. Do these normally pry off or is that a destruction job too?

I'd try to avoid disturbing the mirror base-->screen joint if possible - I've never found the replacement adhesive pads (or direct bonding using mirror adhesive) to be as strong as the original.

There's a small screw (M3 from memory) approx 20mm long that, if loosened/removed will allow you to remove the mirror head.
