2.4 MFI breather pic - what's supposed to go here?

Post by gav p »

The breather pipe attachment on the base of my 2.4mfi air cleaner has a small 1/2inch outlet adjacent to the main hose from the oil tank - see red arrow here:

Is there supposed to be a hose connected to it, and if so, were does the hose go to? The only hole I can find with a similar diameter is on the back of the fan housing here:

Image

Are these two supposed to be connected?

Also in the first pic the yellow arrow points to a 1/4 in outlet from the base of the air cleaner - is this supposed to be open for drainage purposes, or connected to something?? (in the event excess oil ends up in the cleaner presumably?

Cheers...

The small outlet is a drain which attaches to a tube that exits just behind the engine ol cooler. The larger one is a breather that attaches to the top of the oil tank with 25mm braided tube. The small part of the T should be sealed

The first red arrow, would have been connected to the pipe that went to the fuel breather system at the front of the car, this set up was more common on US cars. Just cap it off.
The second red arrow may be the adjustment hole for the lower section of the MFI pump.

Cheers both. It all makes sense now - found the original fuel tank breather hose cable-tied at the back of the engine bay , and have also located the small hole in the tinware for the air-cleaner drain hose.
