What I would like, whether off-the-shelf, or bespoke, is something that looks like this exhaust system with the twin outlets positioned below where the overriders would have gone (but obviously not present on an aluminium rear panel), but be not so loud that I can't hear myself think above 5,000 rpm, and end up not driving the thing.
It therefore needs to have some baffling and silencing material within the box but still have a good, sporty, sound. I don't want a three-outlet type where you can block off the twin outlets whilst on the road and then remove the caps at a track day or whatever because I don't like the look of that so much.
What I had found via Gib Bosworth's '72 LY S/T thread on ESR was the Eisenmann muffler for 1,080 EUR which looks good, but it's in stainless, rather than mild steel, albeit painted grey and I prefer the sound mild steel gives over stainless. I don't know how loud this is either and wondered if anyone had any experience of it, or alternative suggestions for my S/T please?
Obviously I don't want to lose any of the target 270 horsepower on account of the exhaust system, and maintaining some back pressure is therefore important, so smaller diameter header pipes might also be a consideration (no heat exchangers), and wondered if anyone had any views on this as well please?
I then purchased what i was told was a Dansk RSR muffler which sat below the rear valance. I think it sounds wonderful, struck lucky.
