1972 911S with £30k reserve
Original 1972 911S potentially for as little as £30k.
I've a hunch that's not the original MFI and might need a spot of replacement trim

1970 911T, Signal orange (Restoration thread)
1988 3.2 Carrera backdate, Black
2001 996 Turbo, Lapis blue (am I allowed to put that here?)
I'm looking for a pre-impact bumper 911S or other high-revving 911 to restore - please let me know if you see one.

I think JWhillracer should buy that so he can have a matching pair of 'improved' 1972 911Ss...
PS - am I wrong to find that car rather intriguing?

tbh I like it - the kind of thing I'd buy if I didn't have too many already. You can alter a car like that to your taste and not ruin anything. I think you'd run into some trouble trying to register it in the UK because "sold on a bill of sale" hints at it having no registration documents.KS wrote:I think JWhillracer should buy that so he can have a matching pair of 'improved' 1972 911Ss...

The drawn-on redline at 8,000 made me chuckle.

Looks like they chopped it out to accommodate the battery and fuel tank. Buyers wanting a genuine 72S should check the dashboard VIN I guess.hot66 wrote:What could go wrong with a chassis number cut out of a bulkhead somewhere and welded onto this body

.
If you mean the production number stamped into the lower dash (behind the knee roll) - that will only confirm whether it's a 1972 911 Coupe shell - you can't tell whether it was a T, E or S though as the production number was stamped before the shell became model specific ...

Aaaah, youngsters! You forget that a 1972 911S was just another old Porsche at one time.....................KS wrote:I think JWhillracer should buy that so he can have a matching pair of 'improved' 1972 911Ss...

It's probably got more of the original 911 left than, say, Richard Chamberlain's monster!
Cheers

I've been to Tilburg where it's being auctioned. There was a good Reggae Record Shop outside the train station called Das Vibes - I then spent about 5 hours in a coffee shop and remember very little else

Re: 1972 911S with £30k reserve
Well it fetched £30,500 - with commission that's £33,550 for a 935 replica track car with a 3.0 litre twin turbo (likely 800hp+), or for a 1972 2.4S in need of extensive restoration. Whichever way you look at it, somebody got a bargain. I actually did the admin etc. and watched the auction end, ready to bid on this - did I do wrong not to bid at that price?
