You already have the solution: you have all the elements, you just need to re-order them. Your girls occupy a wonderful workshop. They need to be brought into your hobby/passion. Then they will chuck the underused pointless gym equipment and the piddly dining table, and replace them with a ______________ ____________ (fill in name of car/motorbike project) and your Porsche and all your tools etc. Ask them what they want to end up with (stressing the importance of affordability once they're running it) and just go out and buy it and get stuck in, your car will come naturally.........and I'm not even joking, W

If I were to set out to create the perfect conditions to attract a mouse's nest it would probably look a lot like this mountain of Porsche carpets in the garage of shame.

A couple of weeks back at Curborough, the phone went and it was head office giving me a massive earful about my daughter having poked a knife inside the toaster, and blown the entire downstairs electrics. This had led to a situation which is to be avoided at all costs - a woman in the garage.

She was very irate at being unable to reach the fuse board due to carpet mountain.

I hope Chris68 will not mind me mentioning that he was able to advise me of the perfect solution. In their household, they have a similar situation in relation to the boiler controls - to adjust the boiler they simply "use the remote". I told head office to "use the remote". "The Remote?" she replied, perplexed, at which point I directed her to a long bamboo stick formerly deployed as a bonnet stay, and told her to flick the trip switch back with that. I solved her problem efficiently, but gratitude was in short supply.

As to resetting trips, my Boss would NEVER touch that unless provoked, she can reach it, but the lathe and 'steel bar stock' are a bit in the way.
No stick remotes would be tolerated.

Oh, and push the Lola out and to the waiting trailer, and to help push it back in off the road to the garage on a wet Sunday evening after a wet hill climb weekend. Bliss.
And after she has coiled up the 4 tie-down straps and helped bring tools and the kitchen sink into the garage while the oven is on doing the traditional Pizza after a full weekend of fun!
I do have to open the bottle of Red mind.

This might have been said 'tongue in cheek' but I find that & all the references to 'SWMBO', 'the boss' , 'management', etc etc that have crept into various people's posts over recent years very 1950's seaside postcard (esque) & totally outdated - or should be.

There used to be a number of female DDK members who regularly contributed - & came on trips - several of whom were/are very accomplished 911 drivers & I think it's a great shame (for whatever reasons) that seems to no longer be the case ...

I agree it'd be great to have more regular female ddk-ers. I hope our cameraderie arising out of us having at the moment, or having had in the past, a wife, wouldn't made them feel uncomfortable. Best case, we would humorously share in their equivalent cariacatures of men.

Mrs HC does an awful lot and is very involved with all the projects and getting everything to happen and work. A few on here know her well and will understand that.

She has only missed being with me at one hillclimb in 31 years or about 300 competition events and a lot more besides.

Went through this in the 70's!
First way to totally clear the mind of clutter gathering is to have a single garage and a sloping drive.
And build a car in it.

Once you have that sorted, ie NO ROOM you need an 90's Management Course.

'A place for everything, and everything in it's place'
'tidy everything away when done, next day starts better for it'.

Then you simply have to keep it up so it becomes a habit, a natural action.
Benefits are:
Less tripping over stuff
No repeat buying of tools as you almost remember where you placed them before
You can always find something to make something from
You want to go in the garage, so less time in the Garden.
Fewer/no foot prints on the kitchen floor as you trapes in and out of the garage after getting a book to refer too, you just can't keep books in a garage.
You keep the Garage for what it is designed for which can be many things, but usually for car stuff, not lawn mowers and old bikes you will never ride again.

Your mates are impressed as they have not followed your regime of operation, no wonder their restorations take years, and years, and ye...

I once took our much loved and much missed pal Chris Turner for a personal tour of Williams F1 factory — I had access all areas pass from my work and pulled some strings to get him into the normally very secretive parts. Over an afternoon, I walked him through the racing-car development process cycle from start of process to end, in the correct sequence.

Chris returned to Sapcote inspired by Formula One ways of working. There was a big clear out, tidy up, new drawers and cupboards were bought. Long standing customers and the usual cast of visitors to the “care in the community for lost Porschaholics” were amazed at the transformation. But Chris was all at sea; couldn’t find anything because tools were back in their proper place, not just dropped where last used. Normal service was resumed within a week and the aircooled magic happened again as it had since 1974. Calm was restored ( except when people parked outside without permission of course).

What works for some doesn’t for others. For about four years I split my working week at possibly the two oppose extremes of this spectrum and thoroughly enjoyed both. I do miss hanging out my old pal.

I also thought that Mrs HC had years of training in how to pump a brake pedal for bleeding so was allowed into the garage to perform this important task?

She was helping doing the brakes on many cars before the 911, but the 911 was also the hardest to get right for me, so she found herself sat in a cold garage for several hours.
The Lola was mainly built during long long hours at night no matter the weather and temperature, and since years ago she would bring coffee and biscuits or chock into the. Garage at 9.00pm exactly.

Chris donated 5 valve rocker arms to the Lola after the last blow up, and followed my camera problems avidly offering to loan me one of his fixed length Nikon lenses if I wanted to.
Never met him, but I understand the legend.

Quick project tonight. The 3.2 is super low so I needed some custom ramps to get under it. So I managed to use up some of that spare wood.

Just need to check them for fit in the daylight before planing and glueing.
