I should've posted these a week or so back on the day but I took the 911T to the last members' afternoon of the year, at Curborough. Good value at just £10 and I was very grateful to Chris68 for coming along for moral support. So I thought I'd take the opportunity to familiarise myself with the early 911's famous snap oversteer. In reality, it was harder than I expected to elicit undesirable handling.
It's a figure of 8 circuit and on my 2nd lap I think I was meant to turn in to the diagonal section but I didn't - anyway, I came in too hot to take the next bend and couldn't fit my braking in. Deciding discretion was the better part of valour, I elected to overshoot on the straight and do a u-turn rather than take the grass section on the roof. Click for video.
It rained before my next lap making it a bit easier to elicit that sideways driving characteristic. Coming out of the main bend I came onto the power too hard, sending the back end out. I overcorrected the oversteer and when the tyres grabbed I couldn't get the massive stock steering wheel back round to straight again - so I stamped on the brakes rather than take any chances. Note the 3 minutes between gears as typical of the 901 gearbox. At one point I forgot I wasn't an 18 year old driving my mum's Polo for a moment and crunched it straight into 2nd but in general I was trying to treat her nicely. Click for onboard video:
The Prototipo wheel picked up at the swap meet should help with that. All in all I was really pleased with how the engine's running and how well the car handled on what was a very greasy afternoon. This was my first ever time driving a car on a track and it was a lot of fun. But it wouldn't have been if I'd come home needing bodywork repairs.

High volume gasket manufacturing for the inlets on the Lola engine for a few hours.
Bit tedious, but not gaskets you can buy from normal Porsche sources.

For 12.
Measured like mad this morning to ensure the titanium spring top hats will fir the Kent Cams springs.
All OK.
Hope to build the heads in a few weeks time.

My first face to face business meeting for 22 months. Being a bright and sunny day I made it a pleasurable journey and took the 964. Almost reached my running in goal of 1,500 miles by adding another 120 odd to the tally.
All was good, once I got used to driving in the winkle pickers I call work shoes…..

My 981 has the PCM 3.1 system and no Apple Car Play and I found this video on YouTube where a 981 Boxster owner buys the Joyaudio conversion and fits it. So I bought one and today we fitted it, works extremely well and unlike the PCM 4 in the 718, it works via WiFi as well as with a cable. It’s a brilliant device and may be of interest to anyone with an older Porsche. It does Android as well.
I got this old girl back from the garage today. Richard at PCT select had a look at the backlash in the drivetrain and thought she drove beautifully, I was worrying about nothing.
So I treated her to a run up to Stafford in the evening to watch a basketball match.

Took the yellow car over to cumbria for lunch . Met with the wife, then a blat back over the tops to pick up my daughter from school. Bit wild on the a66 tops as I was blown across 2 lanes ! But the countryside is stunning at the moment with the autumn leaves still just hanging on. Did a bit of MFI fine tuning, 1/4 turn on air bypass screws on throttle bodies and a click lean on the main rack … afr’s are showing I can probably go another click lean but I need to confirm for sure my thermostat is getting full heat as I’m not convinced it’s fully opening ( I’ve got an rsr style thermostat blanking plate to fit ) .
Did have a ‘shite what have I done this time ‘ moment when a police man strolled over to me at a petrol station … luckily he starts the conversation with ‘ don’t panic, I’m just coming to look at your car … have you been to classic LeMans ? ‘ … had a good chat with him for 10mins about LeMans proper and his modified Fiesta ST ..
