I've driven several - from a stripped-out ex-racer to an over-restored 'improved'/concours car & each one felt very different ...

That's part of the appeal - I like 'no frills'/basic/noisy cars ...

.

Maybe the one I drove was a bad one or my expectations were too high but it was so disappointing compared to an Elan.

A very glamorous car for a gentleman’s retirement though. ;)

Its a slightly unfair comparison, Elite vs Elan, the Elite came first........and was, perhaps pitched more as a road going competition car.....W

Despite the floorpan she failed the Beetle float test ('The VW will definitely float, but it will not float indefinitely')
maverick
noun
1. an unorthodox or independent-minded person.
2. an unbranded calf or yearling.
Origin mid 19th century: from the name of Samuel A. Maverick (1803–70), a Texas rancher who did not brand his cattle.

Personally, I’m not sure I’d be up for a roll around with Michele, as I suspect she may have lost her soft touch
