Engine machining?

Getting ready for the reworking of the hillclimb 3.2.
Still trying to get some facts for parts, but getting there.

Last time I ventured into engine machining was not a good experience but that was 6 years ago now.
I'm in the Midlands, so a 'local' source would be good for machining the heads for twin plugs, someone with the jigs to do this task and one who has done it before!

Any names please?

I was going to suggest Rob Walker in Witney, who I think did a lot of machining for the local Porsche engine builders, I think Redtek and Autofarm but I may be mistaken. Always did a great job with anything I gave him and he was always doing something on expensive engines whenever I visited.

However he seems to have been taken over a company called Fiennes who I dont know, so I am not so sure what they are like now.

I used Rob Walker a few years back for head skim, valve stems/seats, small ends rod balancing etc. Very good service, decent price and turned up when he said!

As mentioned under new management but hope the skills remain.

Thank you all, I'll try to follow these up.
There was a small company who did machine work for Bob Watson many years ago, I remember going there to get my 2.4 crank after some balancing, but more than 25 years ago!
I imagine most specialists all go to the same few places?

unless you are going to change the pistons,cams and lift the CR on the engine, it is not worth the ££ with the pistons in there at the moment

Hello Mike, got that Terrapin fixed yet!?

I am going to lift the 3.2 in the Lola to a redline of north of 7500.
To do this I think I need
Forged pistons
H beam steel forged con rods/ARP bolts
S or similar cams (hence pistons with pockets for the valves)
Twin plug machined heads incase I need to fit twin plugs obviously, but may start on singles. I say this only from what I've read that the flame front will be slow due to the sharp crown of the forged pistons 'dividing' the chamber. Old wives tales maybe with the diameter of the .2 piston compared to the larger pistons of the 964.

It is the head machining for twins I really need.
I would very much like you to do this if you still have the facility. Be nice to see the Lakes in November too!
The valve job you did where others failed has been perfect.
