Ride height advice

Hi All,

Finally put my 71 s on its wheels, many many years after the project first started

Anyway as might be expected the ride height isnt quite right. It doesn't have an interior, spare wheel, front or rear screen in or much petrol in it so the front I am not so worried about but back looks a bit low



It feels like I need to turn one spline up on the back and see what it looks like when it is fitted out, but just wanted to see if anyone with experience has any specs / recommendations for ride height?

We have a resident dentist (actually an Optician) who has a marked stick for checking and advising on ride heights. It’s a long story

With a view to accurately getting the correct ride heights you could waste a lot of time at this stage. You really need to drive the car so that the suspension finds its equilibrium before fine tuning the ride height. If you want to set things up roughly before you drive then the standard settings are in the little white handbook for your car. Do you have one of those to hand?

I agree that some tuning after driving it is the right way but just wanted to get it a bit closer before I start!

Dont have a white book, just an old manual, if you have any numbers on ride height would be helpful - maybe from your stick

Been through this many times, James is correct in my 30 years with my road come hillclimb car.

24.5 inches at the rear and 26 inches at the front as measured by the stick is a reasonable starting point from floor to top of the wheel arch plus or minus half an inch. One degree rake down back to front is indeed an important point but you might not get to that accuracy until all the weight is in the car (including a driver) and the suspension is bedded in. You’ll probably get a recommendation to visit ‘centre of gravity’ at this end point once you settled on tyre sizes and driven it for a while to get things spot on.

Mike thats perfect for a start point. The guys at CofG are very good, took my GT3 there and they did a great job and very interesting being with them.... just a long way from here!
