I have a friend who asked me about that one so was keeping an eye on it - very strong money!

Ridiculously strong money. Mind you I saw 2 old guys giving it a real searching checkover prior to the auction. I suppose if they’re doing the resto themselves it could make sense!

I think the chap that I spoke to posted on the Registry so may of alerted more people to it.

That said after parts and lots of work there can't be much money left

I’m with Andy, I’d say it’s either side of £100k. £80k if you don’t like the details and would redo lots of bits, £120k if it’s you dream car and you don’t mind potentially shedding £20-40k if you need to sell in a hurry.

This was a spectacular car and probably one of my favourite 356s. Was for sale at £175k IIRC but the quality of the work was outstanding.

All good thoughts, thanks. I very much agree with Hugo 356 and Sam. Bootsy posted it at a time when I’m just assessing the future for my 356, basically as there are still some Porsche itches I’d like to scratch, and money-wise and space wise something would have to go.There are some big prices around and some seem to be selling.

So I took it out for a drive to consider things. Bad move. It was a lovely evening, traffic free, and not having been used for a few weeks, felt like fresh experience.



So I reckon I’ll even have to rob a bank or take it out again on a really crappy evening. First world problems.

I've never been in any 356.
Some, to me, look very nice, and some look just so old fashioned and look a pondering prospect on the road.

However, some look, to me, spot on.
And yours above looks just that.
I think a nice 356 looks right with all the bits on, bumpers etc as the cars are so full of such nice design details. A bigger engine around 100 bhp and some good torque to allow easy traffic driving and good brakes for modern driving conditions.

Aw thanks Graham. The ‘easy traffic driving’ was exactly what we had in mind when we restored it 10 years ago. Discs on the front, 1720 cc engine, but within a mostly traditional look. Or ‘stealth’ as someone called it when they were surprised how it went up the hills.

I’m afraid I’ve always had a soft spot for an early 930 turbo, and I suppose I’m also 914 curious! Your ‘tweaks’ suggestion is interesting. I hadn’t thought of it that way before.
