Dashboard & Door Pulls RHD repros

Post by Silver911SC »

Hi all

I am restoring my rhd ‘72 and I need a new Dash, Lower Dash (bars) and Door Pulls.

I’m after 9/10 condition parts. And any rhd dash’s are still cracked and fortunes, and rhd door pulls are usually pretty distorted and also expensive. So I feel new is probably my best route based on that.

Does anyone know how close to OEM look and feel, aftermarket dash and door pulls are? Also, I’ve only found the following company, does anyone know them, or recommend where they’d buy an aftermarket dash and door pulls?

Dash: https://www.maniadellaporsche.it/part.h ... t=PR55_911
Door Pulls: https://www.maniadellaporsche.it/part.h ... =PR60L_911
Lower Dash: https://www.maniadellaporsche.it/part.h ... R2730A_911
Door pockets: https://www.maniadellaporsche.it/part.html?part=PR3_911

Really appreciate any help and thanks for reading.

No experience with the Italian manufacturer. Are you sure they manufacture the correct dash for a RHD? Carpoint had, at one time, RHD dashes but the price was close to €1800.
I successfully repaired and recovered a dash top for my 1972 911. Repairs to cracks can be achieved with PU and whilst re -covering with vinyl is not a quick or easy process it is possible. I even managed to replace the mild steel bonded in insert in the rear of the dash to which the fixing bolts are attached.

Sadly the dash in mine is from a much newer model with no speaker grill and front air vent, hence need a new one.

Hi all

I have got photos from the rhd dash and rhd door pull supplier in Italy, and wondered if anyone had any comments on how the grain/quality looks compared to what would have been OEM? Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Its difficult to be certain from these pictures and their website, but I've got several originals here to compare against and, to me, it looks like the foreground grain looks pretty original on these new parts, but the background grain might be slightly larger that the originals (less dimples per square cm). Also, as seems to be the case with old and new, the colour looks less black. That said, they could be perfect...

Great that they are making them!

If you have time available, there's a video on YouTube of an original dash being filled and recovered in vinyl. It looked pretty good in the end but I don't know how long it lasted. If I treied it, I think I'd cover with grp to hold it all together first. But I'd probably just buy new to be fair as I don't have much time available.

I bought a replacement dash from Lakewell (1970 LHD 911T). Its very good, but I've seen reports stating that they have made changes and they might not be as good any more. Porsche make them too, but with the wrong pattern on the speaker grill for some reason.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Still struggling to track down a good rhd dash and rhd door pulls.

Sadly I can’t restore my dash as it’s got an SC dash in the ‘72.

I had read that Porsche Classic now do repro dashboards, but worrying if the speaker isn’t right, but I could possible get an original grill of the finish is a close enough match.

Really interested to hear what you guys would do, if you wanted a totally OEM look dash; do I go to lakewells, OPC, somewhere else, or wait for a used one to come up? Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

One thing you may want to consider is buying a good used LHD door pull for your driver’s side door. It makes it much easier to close the door than the original RHD door pull which doesn’t have a pull anyway!

Thanks both. Keen to get the correct rhd door pulls, although my budget won’t stretch to those NOS aussie ones.

I called OPC West London and apparently the rhd dash has been ‘dropped’ and there is no stock anywhere. Seems odd that they’ve already stopped selling the dashboards given they only relaunched them in 2015 I think it was.
