The sun came out.
And it was only 6 miles away.
It was cheap.
That's the only explanation I have for this relatively stupid act. What is it? It's a 24 year old poverty spec 2.5 Boxster that came with one option from the factory. A hardtop. Which it no longer has. No aircon, no speakers in the doors or rear (the dash speakers are so crap its funny) and the roof is broken so only goes up by hand. Seats are pleather and plastics abound. I think the fact that it so basic was why I bought it. Go figure.
It doesn't have a particularly great history, but has a fresh MOT! It has done 93k miles but not moved a lot in a few years. I will give it a full service and change the coil packs and then attend to the myriad little things missing or broken or just not quite working as they should. I like a project. Drove it 240 miles to The Open and back on Friday
Wouldnt make much sense if I wasnt going to do work myself. I dont care much about resale or history file - just want to get my hands dirty and have a bit of fun with it.
Hope so, takes me back to my first car - a black MX5...well, a Eunos Roadster...that was black, that was basic. Similar feeling driving this as driving that.

Exactly! I was looking at 996 convertibles, viewed a C4S, had it inspected etc but just felt it was too much to justify and still as likely to go wrong.
For Boxster specific “How To” threads, proper practical advice and the like it’s worth taking a look at boxa.net - UK forum which is, I think, the largest model specific forum in Europe.
The only Boxster I've driven was a scruffy early 2.5. I really rated it and preferred it to the 3.4 996 I'd just sold at the time. 1/4 of the price as well, not that I bought it.
Anyway: yes, like it lots.

Enjoy, looks very tidy. They are very competent little cars, happy to help if you need any advice on it, there isn’t much I haven’t done to mine!

They have certainly grown on me - I think the orange against the black looks good. But its all about the drive (and bang for buck - hopefully not an IMS related bang ) - just such a nice thing to have out on a sunny day with the roof down.
