Re: my non-Porsche picture of the day
Back in the day before kids my Dad worked in Africa for three years. My mum took a long trip out to see him on a ship and they spent 6 months touring around before coming home.
Of course they bought the Beetle he bought new in South Africa back with him.
I’ve been scanning all his old slides today and thought these images were particularly atmospheric.
Unfortunately the car (or at least it’s registration) is long gone in the U.K.
It’s plate suggests it’s a ‘66 which seems about right. I sure Keith will be along shortly with its exact production month!

66 would have had slotted wheels and flat hubcaps innit?

Guess that was the year of import then, which after posting above I've googled a bit and it would look to be at latest a '63 from the engine lid.Sam wrote:66 would have had slotted wheels and flat hubcaps innit?

Cool photos
maverick
noun
1. an unorthodox or independent-minded person.
2. an unbranded calf or yearling.
Origin mid 19th century: from the name of Samuel A. Maverick (1803–70), a Texas rancher who did not brand his cattle.

I think you’re right. Small front indicators too.Gary71 wrote:Guess that was the year of import then, which after posting above I've googled a bit and it would look to be at latest a '63 from the engine lid.Sam wrote:66 would have had slotted wheels and flat hubcaps innit?
All that aside, what an adventure.
My father-in-law bought an MoT failure VW camper in the late 60s, riveted biscuit tin over the rust and drove it to Iran and back.
I wonder how successful such trips would be today.
