Manuall throttle on 71s

Hi All,

I am trying to put the handbrake lever in and get the plastic arm of the manual throttle lever to line up onto the throttle metal rod that runs through the tunnel. I can just about get it on but it comes off it feels like that there maybe a couple of causes:

1) The throttle linkage is too hard to pull. It is an MFI car and seems there is a lot of linkage to move around so it doesnt feel that bad but it is pretty stiff.

2) The plastic arm doesn't seem to be the right shape to keep on the rod and the collar that is on it.

Maybe there is a trick to this piece that I cant work out, any suggestions?

Might be worth posting a pic of your plastic arm? I remember being surprised when I got a new one from Porsche - it showed up how knackered the old one was... (not that I used it in the end, so that's the limit of my experience).

On 1, have you got the rest of the assembly fully set up? Does it work OK and feel OK on the pedal?

I agree - I think we might need to see your plastic lever and cable clamp.

Just in case you don't already know, the throttle lever and parts pulls the actual accelerator cable (which is spring-loaded at the pedal and the MFI end). If the plastic lever and clamp fit each other, and the plastic lever circlip is on, and the cable clamp is adjusted properly (see user manual) and sitting inside the plastic lever, it should not be able to come out. My lever needs effort to pull up, but not an excessive amount. It also has a bit of sideways play in the cable, which makes it feel a bit sloppy, and I have yet to investigate. The friction discs at both sides of the throttle lever need fine-tuning so that the lever stays up when pulled, but not too tight.... good luck sorting it...

Thanks, the plastic bit arm is a new porsche part so that should be ok.

The linkage is all ok, it seems to be all connected and working fine from the pedal.

I was wondering about this since I posted it. I have the plastic arm going backwards from the handbrake so it is pulling on the throttle rod. I wondered if I have it the wrong way around and that the plastic arm should be going forwards from the handbrake and 'pushing' on the piece on the throttle rod.

Deano you mention a manual for adjustment, is there a link to this online anywhere or could someone post a few pages up on here?

Hi Both,

Sorry thinking through it and just looking at the car a few minutes ago the plastic lever needs to go forward, That makes it a whole lot easier as the big hole in the tunnel then lines up with the piece you screw onto the throttle rod. I think I will be sort when I do that!

Workshop manual has little to say on adjustment, but here it is:

You can just about see in the photo that (with white plastic linkage installed "forwards", as you correctly deduce), the adjustment collar on the cable lines up with an access hole.
