Good work Darren. Is it epoxy primer or E-coat?

Re: Flares....
As discussed previously, I picked up my CDI boxes today which have been machined to resemble the factory race items with a Racing Part number added and an adjustable rev limiter fabricated....Darren65 wrote:.....Whilst the 3.0RS featured a regular CDI box the twin-plug RSR engine came equipped with dual 8-pin Bosch units from the race department....
.....the 8-pin boxes differed in that they worked with a breakerless distributor, the trigger being a magnetic reluctor wheel however the main advantage was the regulated power supply which provided constant primary voltage and a more consistent spark which didn't tail off with RPM rise and voltage drop as with 3 and 6-pin boxes. A superior unit for racing.
The race department took stanard boxes and modified them with the part number machined off and replaced with a racing part number starting with a B....
....most, although not all, RSR's seen today are fitted with units equipped with an adjustable rev limiter fabricated...
....my boxes are likely to have the internals removed as we'll use modern electronics however I will replicate the race number and fabricate the rev limiter and stickers to add a bit of period detail....
....and looking forward to the day my engine bay looks like this....
....

....they've turned out pretty good and just need some ageing, a blob of yellow paint and yellow stickers made (any recommendations who might be able to produce these?) to finish them off.
A minor detail that won't be on many people's radar but it'll keep the engine bay looking correct and stop people asking if the CDI boxes came from an NSU!
Cheers,
Darren

Re: Flares....
Fabulous as ever Darren
The round sticker looks quite thick, sort of a plastic sheet, rather than a paper sticker. Is that right?

Re: Flares....
Thanks Gary......possibly even a foil type sticker although not critically important as long as they look correct and will even consider vinyl.Gary71 wrote:Fabulous as ever Darren

Ultimately, although pretty accurate, the minutiae won't be 100% if comparing units side by side but once in the engine bay they'll look the real deal.
Cheers,
Darren

Re: Flares....
Darren,
Amazing to see once again how deep you are in the details!
For the CDI box internals, are you going with Classic Retrofix 'encore une fois'?
Thanks for sharing!
