None Porsche. I decided to change the brake shoes on the family car. Battled for over an hour to get the top spring back on. Failed. Any tips? Could I warm it up a little?

I do the same as Andy, but ...
I replace the hold downs with panhead screws that I massage quite a bit with a grinder to make them slim so they fit into the brake shoe + grind a slot in the end. Then it's easy peasy to mount them with a screw driver, it works on the first try every time
