I'm really struggling to figure out if I like auctions / CC. On the one hand, I like the business model, price transparency and they certainly seem to be getting some good cars through the doors. I know it's a case of buyer beware but I've been to see 5 cars listed on there and I would say only one had been fairly described. The others have been a wasted trip which could have been avoided with a more accurate description.

CC need to be a bit careful they don't just become a dumping ground for cars that are difficult to sell or get into rangles over fees when the sales fall through post auction.

The fee is just for ‘using the service’. Like eBay, it’s the seller who has the responsibility for accurately describing the car. If you paid the fee to CC and felt the car was inaccurately described you’d, presumably, need to pursue the seller for misrepresentation to get the fee back.

I'm a bit confused too. How do proper auctions make sure that they describe the vehicles properly? It's essentially a private sale (unless trade), so you need to do big DD on anything and everything in my view. I think it's"trendy" to be able to buy unseen. It says "I'm good for it" somehow. As always buyer beware.

As for CC themselves, they have to be careful they don't end up as a dumping ground for dodgy stuff and a reputation to match. They don't do any diligence themselves apart from (i assume) an internal sanity check.

It’s an auction house. Many of the cars will be imperfect. A private seller doesn’t have to actively disclose faults, just be truthful in what they do say. The comments thread gives better transparency than a traditional auction. If it sells around £120k then it could still be a bargain even if you need to fit a new rear quarter, which you may not.

If I were in the market I’d not rule it out as an option because of what’s said on that PH thread, I’d just do the same checks I’d always do before parting with lots of money on a car and bid accordingly.

^^ Yep been around for sale for a couple of years and 'supposed' to be the press car at launch, but there are concerns about it's provenance.



Too many inconsistencies in it's originality, wrong wheels, wrong seats, wrong switches in the centre console, wrong rear hatch lock and so on and no service history for the last 10 years nearly.

Doubt it will reach it's reserve, unless it's someone who hasn't done their due diligence, I was offered it at 30k when I was looking and walked away.

I’ve no intention to dive in and pick apart the car itself.
But as one who has owned a few of these cars with my primary objective being to enjoy using them as intended, I can’t help but raise my eyebrows at these statements, sitting together as they do, in the same write up:

“Since a restoration process completed in 2014, the 911 has only covered approximately 500 miles...”

“... The current vendor has owned and enjoyed this special 911 for the past eight years”
