Seat belt options for 73 car

Can anyone please help me out here with what my options are for front seat belts for my 73T?

... these are the bits that I have to work with, so far:

-Comfort seats with original belt receivers on tunnel side (see pic), and the brackets with the hole on the other side.
-G-model Repa inertia reels (plus G-model receivers + flat 924/944 type receivers)

Obviously the inertia reel buckles are not compatible with the receivers fitted to the seats.

-Is it worth trying to find a set of buckles that fit the receivers on the seat, and have them sewn onto the reels?
Or,
-might it be more sensible to get rid of the original receivers on the seats and fit a modern setup e.g. https://www.design911.co.uk/fu/prod1468 ... KLES-PAIR/

I am sure that this question has been asked before, but I couldnt find the answer on here....

Back in 2007 I researched this topic & bought/fitted a pair of Securon 500/15 inertia reel belts to my '72 911T - see this old thread:

At that time Eurocarparts were the cheapest source but they no longer sell them.

However, a quick check on ebay shows that they are readily available for ~ £30ea

I was thinking more in terms of what to do with the existing original seat belt receiver, as pictured, and whether these can be reused somehow e.g. by finding and fitting mating seat belt buckles to the more modern inertia reels?

Or, are we saying just get rid of the original seat buckles and fit a modern set to the original fixing points either side of the Comfort seats?

That’s what l did using a universal inertia belt. Still in the car after 30 years

I think inertia seat belts were optional at the time and it seems to me that Autoflug reels (traditional webbing) was a factory fitting up to 1971. This will work with the buckles you've got.

'73 cars optioned with inertia belts would have had Repa reels with more modern webbing and buckles.

The belts are not technically correct for a 73 car, Targa's may be different. Your best bet is to find a set of the chrome male tongue belts that fit that receiver.Not cheap these day's.

Is your car Euro delivered. ? Will the reels be hidden away behind rear quarter vinyl covers.?

Belts were hidden behind the rear quarter vinyl covers starting on the 2.4 cars. 72-on

Mine are hidden on a ‘72 coupe (and Securon!)

The belts are not technically correct for a 73 car, Targa's may be different. Your best bet is to find a set of the chrome male tongue belts that fit that receiver.Not cheap these day's.

Not many of those round hole type buckles around, but found some scruffy looking VW Repa tagged items that look right, only £25 for a pair, lets see

It would be good to use the original receivers on the seats though, even if they might not be correct for my 73.0

Interestingly, the Securon belt buckles that I have have a 13mm hole, which seems to be about 0.5 mm too small the original receivers, and the buckles dont go in deep enough largely because of the plastic surround around the buckle. I think a wee trim of the hole and removal of some of the plastic might work, but I have to sacrifice a perfectly decent rear lap belt to find out....

If the Vdub ones dont fit, I might replicate the Securon buckle from a piece of 2mm aluminium sheet first and see if it can be made to fit the original receiver. I suppose the Securon buckle is hardened though so might not be easy....

The correct belts are orange press receivers and the matching Repa reels.
The buckles of the later bumper model will fit and the reels are cheaper than the 73 only reels.
G Model Repa receivers are bolt to the brackets on the middle tunnel. LWB don’t have these mounts. Mounting the later receivers to the L bracket of the seats brings the belly belt to high. - submarining

Not strictly true. The big straight male chrome tongue fit's. It is only the long cranked version that won't fit.
If you have bought this type below, they fit.

Thanks for that, its good to know. I wasn't going to give in that easily anyway.

The ones I bought have squarer ends as shown here so, if I need to, I will re-shape them.

If they can be made to fit, and I decide to use them, they will be re-plated with all of my other chrome bits...
