Did anyone on here win the early 924 race car at CCA?

https://www.classiccarauctions.co.uk/ev ... n-race-car

For a few reasons I really, really wanted it but Mrs Sam’s view was that I’d be ‘getting a divorce’ if I ‘got another effing car’ before I finished building the house.

I didn’t, but it’s another great car, known well.

It was owned up until last year by David Strange, for about 20 odd years. I think he sold it at the auction at the NEC, and didn’t do quite as well as expected unfortunately. It had a life hill climbing and sprinting in the Speed Championship with us for several years, before he retired it and bought a 911 to campaign.

I competed in this car in 2006 I think, at an RAF MSA event in Lincolnshire, after I had a throttle cable failure on the 914, and David generously let me finish the day with 3 runs in the car, together with his nephews. It is a great car, very nimble, and really fun to throw around. I found it quite over-steery, and respectful of it’s history was careful. A bit too careful, as one of his novice nephews beat me!

A great car. Finish the house Sam before it comes back up for sale!

Please don’t you start nagging me too. :(

Most of the rafters were cut at the weekend and they’re lifting the scaffold today so we can get to nailing them on. Every week is a week closer to finishing.

I was born at the same time as that car, have an old magazine with it in and Tony Dron is a neighbour / acquaintance / client of mine and a lovely man, plus I really dig an early 924 and now the fact it has a smidge of DDK history makes me even sadder I missed it. Like you say, maybe it’ll come round again. If it’s meant to be it’ll be.

Yes, great little car as Wayne says. David had a lot of fun and quite a lot of success with it. His battles with Ian’s 914/6 were well worth watching in the early days of the PCGB Speed championship. He was kind enough to offer the loan of it to our son Sam at one point while we were building one ourselves. Unfortunately we weren’t able to take up his offer.
Yes, lovely car Sam, hope it comes up for you another day.
Cheers

That car looks great (online) Mike. Hope you've been a good boy this year, although Santa won't get that down a chimney
