He didn’t seem overly concerned, I have used him a few times. He works to a really high standard. All the other pieces are equally good. I think the vinyl is a really close match. I managed to source door pockets that came off an original car, close enough to this for me.

Thanks for the message. I have fallen out of love completely with the E. So many issues, I will provide a full update when I get a chance. It is now in the safe hands of Gary Cook and having to undergo a full bare metal respray..... now that all of the faults have been fixed. Just wild. Barry Carter has also been involved and I am so grateful for Gary being able to pull on Barry's expertise and make good a bad situation. The car was effectively low on the back end and out on some other areas. If only it was an RS then perhaps the spend to date would be justified.

I have lots of pictures to share and will update, I just find it hard to get excited about the car at the moment. Still love my 2.7 Carrera and sometimes this is just the way of things, if it had come along before the E I would never have bothered. I might change my tune at the end but it is still so far away at the moment.

On the G Wagen, it is unstoppable. Quite incredible off road.

Don’t feel too bad ,I darent tell u how long my 2.2s has taken..........after doing a 2.4 s in 2 years ,same guys ,body and mechanical 8 years.........both bare metal nut and bolt!

I feel your pain. It's not an easy path, especially if you actually keep count of the costs...
It sounds like you are in very good hands now, I hope the car turns out brilliantly well.
Reserve judgement until it's back home, you've driven it, and had some time to bond with it and tweak things.
Then when you decide to sell the Carrera, let me know

I know what you mean about having other cars, too. My collection is less interesting than yours, but still when driving around in the 993 or the 69 car during the x years of restoration of the 70 S, I often thought - these are working pretty well, do I really need the resto pain? The '69 S STILL drives better than its freshly restored garage mate, annoyingly, but I'm getting pretty close to a good setup now. A decent summer next year should see it properly sorted.

BTW I reckon the size comparison between G Wagen and Carrera would be more amusing as a side-on shot, longer lens from further away. Your pic makes the Benz look quite modestly proportioned, which I know is a lie!
Nice to see a muddy one, though - don't get many of those round here...

I think this picture sums up where things ended up with my E. This was Jan 2021, the second time it has been back to bare metal in its restoration. It makes you dizzy looking at it, almost sick, perhaps that's just me.

I have been missing in action for some time and neglected to update my thread, apologies, I will hopefully make good on this over the next few months.

The good news, the car is now painted courtesy of Graham at Limn Historics. Gary at GDC is now amassing the complete back catalogue of all 911 parts ready for the build. There will be some subtle improvements along the way, nothing to detract from the originality but Bilstein all round rather than the original Boge. I am actually getting quite excited again......didn't ever think I would.

Ouch...
You did say it would be bare metal again, but seeing it brings it home. Seeing the invoices doubtless more so!
Still, as you said before - deep breath, move on. You'll never need to revisit this stage, now it's been done right.

I'm glad the excitement is creeping back. Thanks for posting, hoping to see more.
Also the tales of woe are the most entertaining (see Jamie's old thread, among others).

Thanks for the encouragement. The invoices don’t make enjoyable reading.

I also have no intention of ever adding them all up. Learned that lesson, sure you have also told me on more than one occasion that this is a fatal error.
