She makes the VW Thing look pretty, but the Iltis (German for polecat) won the 1980 Paris-Dakar (knocking the Renault 4 Sinpar into 3rd) and spawned the quattro

despite developments in aerodynamics the 4 Vespas entered weren't so successful

I thought that was Graham Hill, but I’m likely wrong. Who and where?

Close :)

Nicked off Facebook :

1969 Montjuïc Park - The park was located on the Montjuïc mountain in Barcelona [ES] and was the scene of the first Barcelona GP, in 1969. The city park was transformed, into a 3.791 km / 2.356 mi circuit, every two years. 1969 was also the year that 'high wings', would be introduced to the sport. 'High' in order to keep these wings in clean air, thus maximising the amount of downforce. This construction soon proved to be a vulnerable one, which already showed in the first GP practice of the year, at the Kyalami Circuit in South Africa, where several constructions collapsed.

In the photo: In Spain, the 2nd GP of 1969, Team Lotus returned with an improved high wing construction. Although this construction survived both practise and qualifying, the two Lotus cars suffered massive rear wing failures in the race, with drivers Jochen Rindt [A] and Graham Hill [GB] lucky to escape alive. For Jochen Rindt bad luck struck on lap 19, travelling up hill on the high speed section of the circuit. Rindt was caught out nearing the top of the hill, where the rear wing collapsed without warning. The car immediately started off flying, crashing into the inside guardrail, before crossing the road, hitting the next guardrail and coming to a stand still, leaving the car in shatters. Both horrific accidents had such impact, that the Spanish Grand Prix was the last ever race featuring F1 cars with the high wing.

The illegitimate fibreglass offspring of a Capri & mk3 Escort? Ugly as sin and gaps you could drive a mini through.

Who's responsible for this horror show? On the plus side I like the laid back windscreen and it has a vinyl sunroof...
