Points good bad?
I have an old school car 10 analyser. Equus 10. It says my points are bad. What does it measure? I've recently replaced the points and condenser. Car idles fine and steady stead but coughs understand acceleration/load. Replace the coil? Check I installed the points correctly?

Re: Points good bad?
Points gap incorrect? - did you clean the surface of the points, some cheaper ones seem to have a coating on both contact surfaces.
If its only started doing it since you change the points, that probably answers the question?

^^^ So very true.
I drag a folded fresh piece of 800 wet-or-dry through my car's points to clean any contamination away, set the gap after.

Porsche 356. Dwell angle is 50. I might of found my problem. After coughing around the Cotswolds for a day. The timing was completed out maybe 10-15 degrees retarded from there is should be. Not sure how that happened as I've never had a distributor move that much before.
Still interested in what the meter is reading for the points.

Time for a 123 ignition upgrade me thinks
If the distributor is slipping under normal operation your clamp has stretched or worn and needs replacing.

Yes I should replace the clamp. It isn't in great shape.

Re: Points good bad?
Unless the timing had previously been set with an incorrect points gap. Now that Neil has set the points correctly, the timing would be out.
