Origin mid 19th century: from the name of Samuel A. Maverick (1803–70), a Texas rancher who did not brand his cattle.

I think it is currently having an oily rag rebuild, what a machine, in fact, all those Shelsley Specials are magic.
All three are still going strong. Spider has just had a major mechanical rebuild and is now shaking down nicely, with some good runs at Shelsley over the weekend. GNAT, on the right, is running very well despite being almost 100% original. WASP, mine for 15+years is having an oil pump rebuild and could do with a clutch overhaul. Last outing was Castle Combe Historic last year, 9th out of 30 or so Frazer Nashes & GNs, despite being only 1100cc and 2 wheel braked! All three are still very competitive in VSCC competition, Spider is still capable of FTD, esp if its raining, Gnat gets class awards on the tighter technical courses, and I have class records at Shelsley, Prescott & Curborough, so far, Wiscombe and Loton still evade me! Image Hard work but tremendous fun and really exciting to still compete hard in something so historic..... An honour.

Brilliant! Not only are they going strong, but in hands that know they belong on the hill rather than in a museum

Magic machines, magic to watch in anger as well as the Paddock.
