a few questions

1) Why does my engine lid have holes here, when all the pictures I see of others dont....


2) Is there an edging strip that covers the door frame edging? it seems odd that it wouldnt have a push over edging strip


3) In the same vein as above there is a 6 -8 inch gap on the edging between where the A post vinyl comes down to the top of the dash and the kicker carpet vinyl edging comes up to the bottom of the dash this bare edging is just body coloured atm. Assuming there is no covering edging strip is this how it is supposed to look? or does something cover it, like a small piece of vinyl?


4) is this edging strip in any way porsche related or is it a red herring, i cannot see any reference to any edging strips but I have a load of this stuff....


5) I assume tunnel carpet fits over the handbrake rubber boot so that the carpet hides the base of the boot..? My rubber boot is 2 inches longer than the slot in the carpet can accomodate it appears to be longer than the mechinism as a whole as well. are there different boots? do i have the wrong end of the stick?

6) I have a pile of gas struts, about 4 types and 4 of each, a load of these must be non-porsche but I dont know what, can anyone tell me what I need for the engine lid and bonnet in full extended length (or there abouts). I cant find any details online.

69 engine lids are a one year only item which is why you see a difference from all other years. It has a unique engine lid grille to go with it.
MY 69 was the changeover year from swb to lwb and has lots of slightly different items.

1 - As Mike says, '69 was a crossover year, but I am thinking it a previous owner modification

2 - Looks like you are missing the door weather strip...The one piece rubber (not a roll seal) weather strip fits in the channel as seen in Mikes post. 3M weatherstrip adhesive works great, but take your time and dry fit first.

3 - Yep, that is correct....Factory simply painted this area black. The weather strip cleans this area up

4 - Doesn't look familiar

5 - My boot also sits on top of the carpet but I never tried to solve the issue...I am replacing the carpet soon so will see if I can get it to sit in the slot, but it's not something I have thought about.

6 - Front struts x2 about 32cm hole to hole fully extended
Rear strut x1 (left side mount) about 32cm maybe a touch shorter hole to hole fully extended

Thanks both!

1) The engine lid doesn't look modified to me, I was thinking it might be to do with a rear wiper set up, but dont see why there would be 2 holes and not one. here is a picture of another 69 lid, you can see the holes on the underneath but not the top...




2) I have the door seal to push into the slot but was expecting a u-channel gripping edging strip for the edge as well. Just because that's how previous cars I have had were like! It seems with this you just have the seal and the edging of the tucked in vinyl and headliner is just on show...

3) I will paint this area black, good to know!

4) I think this is a redundant part

5) Just sitting it on top doesnt seem right, but its way too long to fit in the slot, my only other option is to cut up the carpet unless there is a different boot out there





6) Thanks a lot for the measurements I think I know what I have now. I have 3 around 32cm in length, 2 are 370N the other isnt labelled but feels weaker. I assume the 370N are the bonnet and the other the engine lid for now!

It could of course be an aftermarket carpet with an incorrect size of slot. Just a thought

^^ Most likely. My cheap carpets fitted in '89 were miles out in many places, still in the car, will never wear out.
A few years ago thought I would add an aftermarket handbrake boot and it was miles too long, just like yours in the pic. Decided not to bother in the end.
