Bleedin’ brakes.

Hello, I’ll be bleeding the brakes on the 356 this weekend. I have a Draper pressure bleeder and would like to know if the brake pedal should be depressed whilst the bleeding takes place or should I leave it be ?

I asked the question over on the Registry a few years ago and was instructed to leave the brake pedal alone. Since then I’ve got a workshop manual and the instruction is to depress the pedal whilst bleeding with a pressure system.

Anybody have a view why the pedal should or should not be depressed whilst bleeding the brakes ?

I've only ever done it with the pedal up (left alone). It sort of negates the point of the pressure bleed kit if you need to faff about with the pedal, you might as well do it the conventional way. I have to say, if you have access to another person the conventional way is less hassle.

Surely, once the pedal is depressed then no more fluid can enter the system from the reservoir

I’ve got a pressure bleeder & a vac pump.

Tried every method.

Mostly, I top up the reservoir, attach a hose, open the bleed screw & let gravity do the job. jam jar to catch the fluid & hose under the fluid to act as a no-return valve. Have patience & give it 10-15mins per corner. No assistant required.
