I’ve had the M6 bolt trick in there for ever. Works, but not for long and it annoys the hell out of me!

The later tapered pin solved my check strap clunk.
About £5 quid each.

How about you drill the hole out slightly to get these to fit, and use the original pin?

Nice idea. Problem is getting a drill to it as it’s so close to the pillar. Maybe I need to put the bit in some tube or something as an extension...

Fixed. Welded up then drilled. Custom super long 5.5 and 6mm drill bits (long M8 bolt welded on the end!)

As the drill is still at a slight angle I started with a 5.5 as I didn’t want to over do it. But it did need the 6.

Original pin fits nicely now.

I’ve also kept the splined later pins without the clip. But they will be the last thing assembled when I’m confident the door isn’t coming off again.
And that will be a while

When I did mine way back I installed new bushes in the hinges, drivers' side well worn.
I did the same with an 8mm drill on some 8mm bar so to 'line-drill' the top and bottom hinge bush set.

Nice to be able to drill them Gary, I think only possible if the sill panel is off?

Is Barry now waiting for you or is Darren still down there?

Yes, the drill sits were the sill is, ideally I would have done it whilst the bottom of the A pillar was off as well, but that’s where the experience kicks in for ‘next time’

Darrens car is still there (I think) and I’ve stalled my slot to behind two other smaller jobs as I wanted to make sure I was still employed as the luxury car industry is an interesting place to be at present!

And with lockdown I can’t legitimately travel (unless you are a member of the government!) and stay over anywhere. I want to talk through it with Barry and personally apologise for some of the stuff he’s going to have to avert his eyes from!

Should be about the end of August.

Plenty of time for me to dry fit wheelarch liners and put the new fixings/brackets in place, and generally titivate stuff!

What arch liners are you going with?

Same ones I had before (Lokari), just trimmed and edged better and mounted a bit higher up as the rear tyres used to just scuff them.

As a bare shell is the ideal time to get them to fit nicely without anything in the way.

I’ve been a bit distracted by rust proofing my Son’s new MX5, but I’ve started to make shiny(ish) bits for the 911.

A quote of 290+vat for the powder coating of the pile in the previous image increased my motivation to DIY, especially as I’d already done the hard work cleaning them up.

So I’ve been decorating the garage with a steel hanging forest.

My daughter has had 4 MX5s.
The Mk 2s were so rusty underneath, rust, deep, on everything.
Great cars though!
