interchangeability of engine lids

Stupid question, i feel i should know the answer but i dont....

When i bought the car, it had a ducktail which i binned. I replaced it with an Ali lid which seems to attract small dents like some sort of small dent attracting thing.

Am looking at changing it for a steel one. Would one off a 67 car fit/be any different? If they are different, what are the differences. From the photos, the 67 looks the same as the lid i have.......same pattern, same holes...

There were several stages in the evolution of the engine lid.

Although (theoretically) any engine lid from '65-'89 will fit, there were differences:

'65-early '68 - grille opening has a solid central vertical 'bar'

late '68-'69 - grille opening has no central 'bar' but has only 2 'tabs' for grille attachment

'70-'73 - as above but has 6 'tabs' for grille attachment

'74-'88 - as above but no cut-outs in trailing edge for number plate lamps


Then there are those with holes for rear wiper, aluminium & steel versions, etc.

thanks Andy, much appreciated. The one i am looking at doesnt have the central rib so isnt a 67 lid. It also has 6 tabs and light cut outs so must be good for a 72 car.
