Bye bye bumpers...

Post by KS »

First step towards ridding the car of the hideous US-spec bumpers. Ever seen what your poor 914 is carrying around with them fitted?

Front bumpers weighed 46lbs (21kg), rear 50lbs (22.7kg)!!! By way of comparison, Euro bumpers weighed 20lbs (9kg) front and 18lbs (8.2kg) rear. The h/d glassfibre ones I'm using save 80 pounds (36.2kg) overall...

Especially considering where that weight is placed on the car.

I never forget the first time I picked up one of the later bumpers - wow - seriously weighty things. Definitely think that's a good move Keith.

Rear needing a bit of persuasion... Glassfibre panels can be a bitch!

Meanwhile, the nose needed a bit of persuasion, too, of another kind...

Where did you source the bumpers from Keith? Looking to get myself a set in the future.

I bought them from Angus at Greatworth Classics who I believe is looking to do them. I think they probably originated from FSH GFK in Germany

Thanks. I know them well. All James's and my parts came from there. In fact James negotiated very nice discount on the condition they were collected. So we jumped in my van and did a 700 mile round trip in a day and picked them up, sounds mad but the savings were worth it.

Yes - new/old bumpers won't fit otherwise.
