Outlaw coupe?

Post by outlawfanatic »

Hello all, I've been looking for a 356 Coupe Replica Kit for some time now, as I fancy building an "Outlaw" style car. There seem to be a few on offer in the USA and Brazil / Mexico, but none in the UK.

I remember seeing the M&W car a few years back and then it seemed to disappear (did they ever put it into production?) from the face of the earth. However, it seemed to be out of proportion, my impression was that it was little more than a Speedster with a Coupe top grafted on. Anyone know if this was right? Again I have a dim memory of seeing the prototype in a kit car magazine.

I realise that the car will never be "real", but I would at least like it to maintain the shape and proportions of the original.

I would be interested to hear from anyone who has first hand knowledge of any available kit without having to go to the USA or South America. The names Envemo and Chamonix have been put forward, but I don't see any UK representation for them. Even mainland Europe is not too far to travel.

Are there any others out there who share my interest, and want a change from the flocks of Silver Speedsters, or am I a "Lone Outlaw"?

Cool Coupe

Post by Car Collector »

Hey Stevie (or should that be Hay Stevie ha ha),

your not alone as I have had the same dream for years. I was interested when M&W announced there Coupe, but like you thought it didnt look quite right. There have been some nice Coupe kits in the USA as you say and I believe a kit was available from a bloke in Essen but I think that was impoted. Anyway that one has disappeared as well.

I have been looking at real Coupes to modify but the ones I can afford are rotted out and the good ones are way above what I can afford.

Someone must have more info on these cars like you Stevie I would be interested to find out details.

Hi 912Phil - What a cool Outlaw!! Tell me its NOT GRP? It certainly looks more like a steel bodied one from the pics? Any further details available - I would certainly fancy one very much like that. The black Fuch's look the biz too!

ha ha wicked just read that....

yeah shes plastic....and flammable

as far as looking real ive not had the opportunity to park it up along side a real one but pics give me an idea that its close. from my conversation with Barry at MandW real cars where used in the design and to be honest i am totally bowled over by how good it was.

Big up to Martin and Walker for doing it.....just such a shame that they only did three

If you after one please feel free to contact me about this one....she may be for sale in the near future...well fingers crossed on that one :)

Really nice job Phil, I'm looking forward to seeing it in the flesh, will you be going to the Historic Motorsport Show at Stoneleigh next month ? I should be there with a 904 we're building at the moment ?

Outlawfanatic and Car Collector I still have the moulds for the coupe :)

As Phil says we made them by grafting an original 356 top half including the front and rear screen apertures onto a Speedster shell, the fit was surprisingly good and only required minimal filler over the joins We also moulded the engine lid from an original.

Outlaw Coupe

Post by outlawfanatic »

Hi there,
glad to see the molds still exist so my question is - what is in the kit , price and delivery. I take it that the body fits on a shortebned Beatle floorpan?

Did you ever complete the other special parts [ side windows and stuff ] or will i have to use original parts. Not that it matters to much but how close is the shape to the original as you basically joined two cars together. I would also like 2 engine lid grills is that possible.
