2019 Bo'ness Revival Hillclimb 31st Aug/1st Sept

Post by Burma-Shave »

Bo'ness coming up again, with the usual suspects going up the hill as part of an increasingly strong classic Porsche turnout including our very own Niki Lauda/James Hunt combo, Margaret and Brendan.

This year is celebrating Jim Clark with a class only for cars he raced in, so I'm running my 356 in that. This is good as I've no chance in the pre-74 Porsche class especially with those two CHEATERS with their racing tyres and secret modifications.

There's also a road tour to Duns. And BoydyRS is racing just over the queensferry bridge on the Sunday - the organisers are doing a discounted combo ticket for SMRC at knockhill and Bo'ness entry on the sunday.

Be good to see some DDKers there..

What a fantastic weekend. So many laughs and great ‘friendly’ rivalry. Couldn’t have been done without the generous Tom Margaret and Bonnie hosting us all. Brendan left most of his car back in Glasgow and (what was left) was quickest up the hill so well done. A fantastic performance also by Johnny Graham.
Thanks for all the help on my first event and despite managing to visit some bales and a fence on one run enjoyed getting quicker (I think, Brendan has all the numbers).
Nice to see some faces I’ve not seen for a while. Great banter.

Regards
Mike

Sounds like a great day !

Tell us more about your 'maiden' venture Mike - what car were you driving (sharing Brendan's maybe ?) ?

On a side note it seems a shame that nowadays many events' pictures are posted elsewhere (other than here on DDK) ...

I loved it Andy. I was in my 914/6 and didn’t take a single picture over the weekend due to concentration/excitement/fatigue/minor crash/repairs.
Exhilarating for an old boy like me because I’ve never done any competetive motorsport in my life apart from the odd track day so I thought it was about time I tried it. Car was fantastic. The weak link was me.

Mike

Where did the 914/6 come from & when did you get it ?

Would be great to hear more about it (& see some pictures)>

Glad you had such a great time.

Sorry for the delay in posting, last night was spent washing the mud from the car! Here is a quick picture that may at least answer one of your questions. I will be back this evening with a full update and more pics.

That’s the one Andy. It’s very capable and Wayne has lavished time, effort and all the good parts on the car. I was one second off the pace of the pack at the finish up which is not bad for a rookie (if you discount the modified RS in the very capable hands of Colin who was 4 seconds faster than everyone). I’m ready for more!

Regards
Mike

Really sorry that we couldn't get there again this year, a big family weekend, and a crowded schedule of events meant it wasn't possible.
Maybe next year! :)

We'll be at Doune on 14/15th September for the National meeting, so if any of you guys are about, please come and say hello.
Has Margaret taken enough brave pills to enter Doune again?
What a great car to compete in, Mike! You will have a lot of fun with it. :bounce:

Cheers!

Thanks JW,

for your encouragement. First time out was a big learning curve for me.

Can’t make Doune unfortunately but hope to next year.

Brendan may have been faster but he left most of his car back in Glasgow!

JG and PF deserve special mention too as they did some great times in two of the prettiest cars at the event. Both looked immaculate in such great colours. They both certainly looked the part.

I can’t say enough about Margaret, Tom and Bonnie but suffice to say, as always, it’s the banter and friendship that makes it all worthwhile.

Regards
Mike
