What steering wheel boss fits a 356 T6?

Post by louis356 »

I was gifted a Les Leston Steering wheel and I fancy trying it on the 356. I was wondering what boss to look out for?

Would it be a VW one? what other cars fit 356s. My A35 race car has a TR6 boss and most of the triumph family fit.

if I look for a 356 one it's going to double in price!

Thanks

The hub you need is unique to Porsche models I'm afraid.

You need one to fit 356B/C & 911/912 models up to 07/'74

Probably the cheapest solution for your Les Leston is to use the splined centre section from a 'scrap' original early 911/912 wheel & fabricate an alloy 'spacer' to mate that to the mounting bolt pcd of the Les Leston.

If you search back through my 904 build thread you'll see that's what I did ...

Drat, I thought so. How many scrap wheels can there be out there? and that's going to be expensive anyway.

Looks like I have some wall art then!

The above assumes it is one of the 'large centre' 6-bolt wheels (as opposed to the 'small centre' 5-bolt version) ...

Post a picture of your wheel so that we know which version you have ...

Karman Konnection will have what you need, but I’ve no idea how much it’ll cost.

Bought my boss of eBay from Germany. Cost about £90, listed as early 911, made an adapter out of billet. Bought two bits for £8 (still got one spare) mate turned it up on lathe, I drilled and tapped it.
Hardly used the car since, too much work and I’ve been pre-1925 motoring whenever I can!

If needed I have a few snaps of the new boss, (wide 6 bolt as per original) the adapter I had spun up and the wheel fitted to the car.
Just a bit of fun, the wheel might end up on the wall yet...
